Roles in CAMHS

Family / Systemic therapists

About the role...

Family therapists are qualified CAMHS practitioners, who hold a core profession and  who have undertaken further training to specialise in working with families.  They work with the whole family where possible, so that everyone becomes part of the solution to the mental health difficulties a child or young person may be facing.

What qualifications do I need?

Family therapists from a ‘core profession’ and will have undertaken academic and clinical qualifications as appropriate for that profession. They will undertake further specialist training in family therapy and on occasion this training can be provided through the academy.

Systemic family therapists have a high level of training through academic studies. Some of these studies can be funded through NHS England whereas others courses are self funded.

What experience do I need to bring?

Family therapists will have gained experience in working with children and young people, as well as their families, in their professional career.
