350+ Careers
Within CAMHS Academy at Hampshire and Isle of Wight
What is 350+ Careers?
350+ NHS careers is an education outreach programme across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight aimed at students aged 3 – 24 years.
The programme gives young people the opportunity to gain insight to the wealth of opportunities that a career in our NHS can offer. It isn’t a workplace solely made up of doctors and nurses, but a creative and diverse workforce, filled with employees of all academic levels and social backgrounds.
Sessions available for students aged 3-24
Over 60,000 student interactions since 2021
Working with over 150 settings across Hampshire and the IOW
Working across Hampshire and IOW
Since September 2021, the 350+ programme has had over 60,000 student interactions, supported through the positive relationships the team have forged with local councils, Local Enterprise Partnerships, mainstream schools, MLD Schools, Pupil Referral Units and colleges.
350+ Careers are making a real difference to the lives of thousands of children by quashing myths on entry levels, progression routes and subject links within the NHS, giving students a focus for the future and valuing each individual.
From school leavers, supported internships, apprentices to university graduates there is a role for all those who will uphold our NHS values. They also support SEND, LAC students and those in alternative provision.
This fully funded provision from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Integrated Care System is an enriching experience for students and one that will also secure evidence against the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Case study
T Level student Jessica from Havant and South Downs College is pictured here with NHS Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and 350+ NHS Careers specialist, Jen Williams. Jessica, who is in the second year of a Health and Nursing T Level, joined Jen for a visit to Southsea Infant School where Jessica observed Jen undertaking an assessment with a child.
The visit was part of a three-week placement with Solent NHS Trust’s Child and Family Service Line, which Jessica, 17, undertook at The Child Development Centre, Battenburg Avenue in Portsmouth.
Talking about her experience, Jessica says: “I’ve had a brilliant time working with Jen and learning about the role of a Speech and Language Therapist. I hope one day to work with children in the NHS and I am keeping an open mind as to what career this will be,” says Jessica. The oldest of five girls, Jessica has always enjoyed helping her mum look after her sisters. Caring for children comes naturally to Jessica and she can’t wait to continue her health career journey.
