About us

Welcome to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight CAMHS Academy

Our history

In recognition of the national and local recruitment and retention problems faced by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) across NHS provider organisations in Hampshire and Isle of Wight and the increasingly complex nature of child and adolescent mental health needs, the development of a CAMHS Academy was born to address these issues.

Supported by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (HIOW ICS) and the four providers within HIOW supplying CAMHS at the outset, colleagues were invited to join the Steering Group in June 2023 which formed part of the design process of the Academy, as part of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The vision, design and pillars of the HIOW CAMHS Academy has evolved through discussion, collaboration, young people participation group feedback, third party feedback and partnership of the Academy Steering Group.

Our vision

Our vision is for the Hampshire and IOW Child and Adolescent Mental Health Academy to provide a collaborative platform for all current and potential workforce to explore career opportunities, training and development programmes, leadership options and promote and grow skills in research and development.

This vision will enable our future and current workforce to deliver exceptional care to our children and young people and their families. The Academy provides a platform for individuals to have easy access to understanding the job roles available within a CAMHS environment, the difference the role will make, the career opportunities available and the training, education, and research opportunities available to support growth and development.

The vision and pillars have been developed in partnership with our young people’s involvement groups, colleagues from across all child and adolescent mental health services and partners and our core team, with the our core values in mind throughout.
