Childrens Mental health Support worker
About the role...
Mental health children’s support worker plays a vital role in assisting children and young people with mental health challenges.
Mental health children’s support workers can work within various settings, including:
• Community Mental Health: Working in community-based services.
• Primary Care: Collaborating with GPs and healthcare centres.
• Local Authority: Supporting children and young people in local authority settings and in the voluntary sector too.
A mental health children support worker makes a significant difference in the lives of young individuals facing health challenges and they are responsible for using a person-centred approach, tailoring their care to each individual unique need and interest of the young person and supporting young people in the communities to maintain relationships and connections in their local communities.
What qualifications do I need?
A compassionate nature, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to supporting children’s mental health are essential. This role is open to anyone, with or without a degree, who has experience of working with children and young people to support their mental health. You don’t need a degree to apply to work as a Mental Health support worker however you need to ensure that you have the potential to study to a higher level if necessary.
What experience do I need to bring?
It would help if you sought out opportunities to volunteer with Children or had experience of working with relatives or families who are sick or disabled and you can demonstrate supporting them in challenging times.
Kind compassionate and an excellent communicator are essential for this role alongside the ability to manage a demanding work load.
