Trainee Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner

About the role...

Trainee Childrens Wellbeing Practitioner is a role that supports young people and children with their mental health and offers evidence based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

This role once qualified can triage patients based on their needs and signpost other services that would help young people enabling priority to increasing access to and available of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.

Once qualified you would work in the community CAMHS teams and/or GP surgeries, ensuring that you are :
• building relationships with other services to ensure children and young people can be referred to the services that best meet their needs
• communicating effectively with children, young people and their families and carers when referrals are made
• recognising which services could provide ongoing support when therapy comes to an end, such as youth groups,
• developing a shared understanding of which referrals are suitable for CAMHS



What qualifications do I need?

To become a CWP you need to complete a year-long training programme. To access the training, you will need to apply for a position as a trainee CWP in a children and young people's mental health service.

The programme is open to anyone, with or without a degree, who has experience of working with children and young people to support their mental health. You do not need a degree to apply for the programme, but you’ll need to show that you are able to study at degree level.

During your one-year training programme, you’ll gain a range of experience and work closely with a trained supervisor to help you engage in self-reflection, seek and respond to feedback, and develop your professional knowledge and skills.

Once qualified, your employer will provide you with ongoing training to keep your skills and knowledge up to date. To support your practice and your wellbeing as a practitioner, you will be provided with regular supervision.

What experience do I need to bring?

Entry requirements for the training courses include:
• experience of working with children and young people
• proven ability to study at undergraduate level
• knowledge of child and adolescent development
• good communication and interpersonal skills
