Legislation
Children's Act 2004
An Act of Parliament that establishes a Children's Commissioner, regulates children's services in England, Scotland and Wales and has provided amendments to previous laws. The aim of the law is to make the UK better and safer for children of all ages.
Mental Capacity Act 2005
An Act of Parliament that sets out the principles and procedures for protecting and supporting people who lack capacity to make decisions. The aim of the law is to promote and safeguard decision making within a legal framework, uphold an individual's rights and empower their voice to protect them from harm. Applicable to people aged 16 and over.

Mental Health Act 1983
An Act of Parliament that covers the assessment, treatment and rights of people with a mental health disorder. This law also outlines conditions of detaining someone for assessment or treatment.
